Pulsatile Tinnitus: Personal Experience

An individual who suffers from pulsatile tinnitus will normally hear in their ear, right or left, a sound that is in time with their heartbeat.

I found a huge problem in Healthcare when I first experienced this around 2016 and 2017 when I would go to the doctor and explain that I could hear a whooshing sound in my ear that was in time with my heartbeat. I was either accused of laying on a pillow and hearing that sound or lying for attention.

Still to this day pulsatile tinnitus is labeled a rare occurrence. The only way for a doctor to see if it was a vascular issue was to look for a bruit which they could never find. I saw multiple doctor's for this aggressive symptom with little to no help.

Over the next three to four years I developed debilitating vertigo with absence seizures. My scans would come back “normal“ and that was the most frustrating part over time. I chose to do more research on pulsatile tinnitus and found others experiencing the same symptoms.

At that point I had exhausted all options. I chose to send my scans for a second opinion only to be told everything was "normal".

I decided to at that point to contact a doctor in New York and see if he was able to help me. I sent over the same scans to him that I had sent to the hospital to get a second opinion before buying the ticket, and he said yes I would like to see you I believe we could help you.

Now, I'm able to say I no longer have Pulsatile tinnitus. We were able to get a final diagnosis of

Venous Sinus Stenosis with Bilateral Transverse Sinus Stenosis. A jugular bulb diverticulum.

I had two stents placed and about six coils.

I would love to hear your own personal journey! Please feel free to comment below
